New Direct Flights Connect Accra, Ghana to Rome, Italy

Accra, Ghana – In a significant development for air travel between Europe and Africa, Ghana Airports has announced a strategic collaboration with ITA Airways to introduce direct flights from Rome, Italy, to Accra, Ghana.

ITA Airways, a prominent European carrier, has received approvals from the Ministry of Transport and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, marking a pivotal milestone in the expansion of commercial flight operations to Accra. The airline is slated to operate a four times weekly direct service between Rome and Accra, with detailed flight schedules set to be unveiled imminently.

This announcement has been met with enthusiasm from key stakeholders, including the Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare. Speaking on behalf of the Board, Management, and Staff, Mrs. Opare expressed excitement about the prospect of welcoming ITA Airways to Kotoka International Airport. She highlighted the airline’s addition as a testament to the airport’s growing portfolio of international carriers and emphasized the readiness of Ghana Airports Company Limited to facilitate seamless operations in collaboration with ITA Airways and other airport agencies.

“We eagerly anticipate ITA Airways’ inaugural flight on June 6, 2024, perfectly timed for the summer peak travel season,” remarked Mrs. Opare. She underscored GACL’s commitment to ensuring a smooth travel experience for passengers transiting through Kotoka International Airport, further enhancing the airport’s reputation as a premier gateway to West Africa.

The entry of ITA Airways into the Ghanaian Aviation Industry is poised to deliver a host of benefits to passengers, including expanded flight options and increased connectivity between Europe and Africa. As the 24th international airline to operate into Accra, ITA Airways joins a prestigious lineup of carriers serving Kotoka International Airport, including British Airways, Emirates Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Air France, among others.

Additionally, regional airports across Ghana are served by domestic carriers Passion Air and Africa World Airlines, with Gian Air providing charter flight services, further enhancing accessibility and connectivity within the country.
