The University of Cape Coast recently played host to the 14th edition of the Churches of Christ Tertiary Students’ Conference, drawing representatives from approximately 30 campuses, including universities, colleges of education, and nursing training schools.
Under the overarching theme of “Pursuing Spirituality Despite Secularism and Secularisation,” the conference delved into the challenges and opportunities facing young Christians in an increasingly secular world.
Dr. Augustine Tawiah, a Minister of the Church of Christ and Member of Parliament for Bia West Constituency in the Western Region, shared perspectives on navigating adulthood as an emerging Christian amidst secular influences.
Distinguished speakers enriched the discourse: Dr. Frank Guertin, Associate Professor of Theology at David Lipscomb University in the US, provided insights into the history of secularism in the West. Mr. Fred Asare, Group Managing Director of the Village of Hope Group and a minister of the Church of Christ, illuminated the impact of secularisation on Christianity in Africa.
Culminating the program, Mr. Frank Essien, Minister at the University of Cape Coast Church of Christ, delivered a powerful sermon addressing the conference’s theme.
Beyond the intellectual discourse, the event was adorned with vibrant activities including drama, games, singing, and worship sessions, enriching the attendees’ spiritual experience.
In a resounding call to action, students were charged to become catalysts for change in their communities, embodying the values of spirituality amidst an increasingly secular landscape.
